Velda L. Davidson

Velda Lee Jewell …..was born, March 8, 1942, in Warren County, Kentucky, to the late Guy Thomas Jewell and Mary Lizzie Woods Jewell. Velda attended school at Oakland, Smiths Grove, Delafield, State Street, and High Street. She professed her hope in Christ in, 1952, under the Pastorship of the late Rev. J.E. Barksdale, at Cowles Chapel Baptist Church. Velda moved her membership to the New Bethel Baptist Church where she worshiped for many years, and then later the Eleventh Street Baptist Church became her home. She was united in marriage in 1959, to the late Charles (Ed) Oldham. To this union four children were born, one daughter and 3 sons. In, 1978, she married the late Leonard B. Davidson. Velda was a very good seamstress, 32 years of making clothes for her children, herself, and others until 1993 when she became ill. Velda was an avid golfer for 23 plus years, always winning competitions not just in the city of Bowling Green but throughout the area. Velda loved to travel, some of her trips included the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Alaska, Panama Canal, and numerous other places. Her greatest addiction was pretty hats and she loved to dance. Velda was a former employee of DESA, BRADD, and the City of Bowling Green, and was a past member of The Eastern Star, Hattie Wolf Temple, and Ace’s Golf Club. In addition to her parents and grandparents Velda was preceded in death by her son, Michael Oldham; sister, Maxine Johnson; brothers, James (Dog) Jewell and Stevie (Box) Jewell; aunts, Lillie Woods, Edna Gentry, Virginia Massey, and a very special friend Jacob White; nieces, nephews and step-daughter, Billie Sue Oldham Hines. To cherish the memory of Velda Lee Jewell Davidson she leaves her daughter, Vickie (Steve) Beck, Bowling Green, KY, sons, Retired Sgt. Major Charles (Teresa) Oldham, Woodbridge, VA, and Jerry Oldham, Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Taria, Charles “Chuck”, Apollonia “Apple”, Kourtney, Amy, Ameshia, Sydney, Khatia, Jayleigh, Gage, Jhanire, and Nautica; great-grandchildren, Alexus, Tre'Shawn, Se'Kyah, Jaycee, Saria, Mikayla, Callie, MJ, Jayah, Mhari, Mason, Anizah (Byrd), and Jahari; great-great-grandchild, Karslyn; four sisters, Rosie Parker, Toledo, OH, Ruby Jewell Woods, and Margie Sue Johnson, both of Bowling Green, KY, and Marilyn Jewell, Pontiac, MI; a brother, Elder Harland Jewell, Bowling Green, KY; aunt, Sally Savage, Glasgow, KY; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
