Duan V. M. Wright

Duan Vinell Marquis Wright was born, May 3, 1978, in St. Louis Missouri, a son of Wander Wright (Fabian) Bromwell and Roddy Cross. At an early age the Wright family relocated to Bowling Green, Kentucky where Duan was baptized at an early age at the Trinity Full Gospel Church under the leadership of Rev. Charles Baker. Duan loved to sing and his first choir at Trinity was Jewels and Gems. Duan continued to grow in his belief in the power of prayer. Throughout his high school years Duan also sung with The Next Generation. Duan attended Drakes Creek Middle School where he played football and was a 1996 graduate of Greenwood High School. Continuing his education Duan graduated from Western Kentucky University with Honors and his Master's Degree in Education. At WKU Duan became a member of The Amazing Tones of Joy and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., he also supported other Greek organizations. Later Duan received a Cannabis Certification from Sullivan University, Louisville, Kentucky. Duan’s first vocation started out with National City Bank in Bowling Green and later transferred to the Louisville Branch. Duan was ultimately able to enter into the profession he desired acquiring employment with the Jefferson County Public School System. Duan served for over 20 years as a teacher and in various leadership roles within JCPS. Because of Duan’s dedication and passion for children and education, he obtained his principals license which allowed him to further his career becoming Principal at Hart Stern Elementary School from July 18, 2012–May 19, 2023. Duan served as the former President of Jefferson County Association of School Administration & Greater Louisville Alliance of Black School Educators. Duan was also an entrepreneur with the MELAnaire Marketplace and supported minority business, often noted to wear urban attire, and was a distributor of doTERRA oils. Duan worshipped with the St. Stephens Church in Louisville and was a champion for children. He made many valuable contributions and friendships throughout his life. Duan loved to travel. He loved grilling and cooking, especially greens, red beans and rice. Crab cakes were his specialty, which he mastered. His favorite saying was "We Gon Be Alright” Kendrick Lamar. On, Sunday March 9, 2025, God saw to call home his son at the age of 46 years, 10 months and 6 days. Duan was preceded in death by grandparents, Roberta & Jessie L. Wright, Sr., uncles, Jessie L. Wright, Jr., and Frederick Wright, Sr. To cherish the loving memory of Duan Vinell Marquis Wright he leaves his parents, Wander (Fabian) Bromwell and Roddy Cross; siblings, Joshua Byrd, Haley Byrd, Nevaeh Hall,Roderick Cross and Randall Cross; uncle, Damon Wright; aunt, Tiffany (Jonathan) Gough; nieces, Aniyah Byrd, and Ava'Leigh Grainger, nephew, Jayren Byrd; 1st cousins; Jerrick Carver, Frederick Wright, Jr., Latwon Wright, Paul Jones II, Parker Jones, Jessie Lee Wright III, Jestin Wright, Toddney Frierson, Brelynn Wright, Clarissa Wright; Godchildren; Raiden, Samuel, Addie, Anthony, William and Elliott.
