Danny W. "Popcorn" Halcomb

Danny William Halcomb peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on March 31, 2020, in Silver Spring, Maryland, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Danny was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky on August 3, 1956, to the late James Edward Halcomb and Wilma Jean Ragland-Halcomb. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his cousin, like a brother, Steve Wilson and his mother’s sister Aunt Corrine Wilson, like a mother. Danny was lovingly known as “Popcorn,” a nickname given to him by his father. At a young age, Danny attended Friendship Baptist Church in Logan County, Kentucky and became a member under the late Bishop Shobe. At age 13, Danny accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in a “farmer’s creek” along with his siblings, cousins, and friends. His father’s brother, the late Reverend Harold Halcomb, ministered strong Christian guidance to Danny, his siblings, and cousins. Danny frequently testified about his “mourner’s bench” conversion experience and the creek baptism. As an adult, Danny later became a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Bowling Green, under the leadership of the late Rev. J.H. Taylor. Danny was educated in the public school systems of Bowling Green, where he graduated from Bowling Green Senior High School. Danny later married Deborah Evans, from that union a son was born; Aaron D.Halcomb. Danny later met Ms. Regina Clark, from their strong friendship three children were born; LaDanica, Troy and Tyson Halcomb. Danny truly loved his children. Danny was a proud man and a hard worker who overcame many of life’s obstacles. Danny relocated to Louisville, Kentucky. There he joined Greater New Beginnings Christian Church, under the guidance of Pastor, Darrell Wilson. There he joined the ministry of ushering. Danny believed that in Christ, you have received God’s unconditional love, and, in Christ, you are called to extend that same unconditional love to others. Danny gave his unconditional love to every member and visitor that walked through the doors of the church. Danny’s employment included: Bowling Green Daily Newspaper, Holley Carburetor, United States Senate Architect and PSC Industries, Inc. Danny was gifted in gardening, a skill that he learned from his father. He enjoyed watching old western movies, trash-talking around board games, fishing, interior, and exterior painting, he loved watching football, basketball, and cooking (nicknamed “Danny cook a lot”). His home is adorned with memorabilia representing his team of choice -- the Baltimore RAVENS! Danny enjoyed wood carving, etching drawings, and fishing. He even made his own homemade fishing bait (“dough balls”). Danny had a love of “self-tied” bow ties and cuff links. Danny was a marvelous storyteller, who could hold the attention of an entire room with his hilarious tales. At the request of Danny’s sisters, he relocated to Silver Spring, Maryland in 2017, so that his sisters could assist in caring for him during his fight with cancer. Danny regularly attended the Peoples Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, under the guidance of Pastor Haywood Robinson III, with his sister and volunteered there on many occasions at church events. In 2018 Danny enjoyed volunteering and campaigning for Maryland’s Delegate in Maryland’s 14th Legislative District in Northern Montgomery County. Danny leaves to rejoice his memory his seven sisters and twin brother, all of whom were given nicknames by their father, the late James Edward Halcomb; Sue Sweatt/Soup bone, Gloria Halcomb/Tatuh, Sharon Halcomb-Franklin/Pie, Donald Halcomb/Peanut, Teresa Halcomb-Adams/Lucky (David), Mary Halcomb-Robinson/Apple (Daniel) and Christie Halcomb-Payne/Titoe (Edward), a granddaughter, Mya Halcomb; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Danny made it perfectly clear to his family that he’s in a Win, Win situation, “If I die, I’ll be with the Lord and if I live, I will have a testimony of God’s healing power”.
