Saundra F. Birch

Saundra Jefferson Birch was born on February 21, 1963, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She held a special place in the family as the only daughter of the late Sterling and Rosie Lee Massey Jefferson. She transitioned from this life earning her heavenly reward on July 24, 2025. Saundra, affectionately known as "Sandy'' accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Alva ton, Kentucky. Sandy was educated in the public schools of Bowling Green, Kentucky. She was a graduate of Warren Central High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in computer science from Kentucky State University, Frankfort, Kentucky. In her distinguished career she worked for many years as a computer analyst. She was talented in technology and skilled at connecting with others, enabling her to teach at higher education institutions in Kentucky. Sandy shared a deep and unwavering love for her son, Eldon, who was the joy and light of her life. As a devoted mother, she poured her heart into nurturing and guiding him, laying a strong foundation of love, faith, and encouragement. In the early chapter of her life, she was blessed to meet and marry the love of her life, Rowlando Birch. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unity. They formed a strong family bond built on love, respect, and shared values. Her love deepened as their family grew, and her role as a mother and wife remained central to her identity and purpose. She was highly regarded professionally, and her expertise afforded her opportunities for engaging in many consulting projects. Being a proud KSU Thorobred, it was indeed an honor for her to spend the last 15 years contributing to her own alma mater as an Extension Associate in Communications before retiring in December 2024. Sandy was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and a charter member of Xi Eta Sigma of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Sandy was a loving, bold, and beautiful lady. She loved to laugh and was always full of wit and wisdom. Sandy was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sterling and Rosie Lee Massey Jefferson, brother, David Wayne Jefferson, and her infant son, Nathaniel Birch. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Rowlando Birch, Bowling Green, Kentucky; son, Eldon Washington, Danville, Kentucky; granddaughters, Stashia Washington and Kamia Washington; grandsons, Jacorey Washington and Nathaniel Washington; brother, Reverend Kenneth Alan (Faye) Jefferson of Bowling Green, Kentucky; special aunts, Viola LaRue and Yvonne Potter, both of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Virginia Daniels of Louisville, Kentucky; uncle, James (Tammy) Massey, Bowling Green, Kentucky; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins that she adored and a plethora of friends including her lifetime friend J a Wanna Green.
