Robert M. Franklin

Robert Marshall Franklin, also known as Bobby Franklin, was born October 30, 1942, in Fountain Run, Kentucky, and was the second of three children born to the late William Edward Franklin and Katherine Eugenia Whitney Frankin. Robert attended and was a member of the State Street Baptist Church where he was faithfully dedicated as long as his health allowed. He attended State Street High School and graduated from High Street High School in 1959. While in high school, he sang in the choir and played clarinet in the band. Robert enrolled at Kentucky State University in September of 1959. While at KSU, he sang in the church and concert choir. He played the clarinet in the KSU marching and concert bands. He majored in English and minored in French. He graduated from KSU in 1964. His first job after graduation was teaching in Cario, Illinois at Dunbar High School. Robert returned to Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1965 and began his Master’s Program in Guidance and Counseling. Afterwards, Robert moved to Heber, Arizona and accepted a teaching position at Heber Job Corp Center. While there, he was referred to a teaching position in San Antonio, Texas. He applied and accepted the position with the San Antonio Independent School District. He taught in the San Antonio Independent School District for the next 36 years. While teaching in San Antonio, Texas, he received his Master of Arts degree in 1967. he retired and returned to Bowling Green, Kentucky in October of 2003, where he remained until his passing. He was also a valued member of the local Kentucky State University Alumni Association. Robert, Bob, Uncle Bob, Bobby, was a fine man and even better friend. He was proud to be a brother, uncle, friend, and his legacy will forever resonate in our hearts. October 31, 2025. God stood at the door and beckoned his son home as Robert found refuge from all his labor at the age of 83. Robert was preceded in death along with his parents by brother Larry Edward Franklin, Sr. To cherish the memory of Robert Marshall Franklin, he leaves his sister, Patricia Franklin; best friend and cousin, Jo Lavonne Ewing; nephew and caregiver Kenneth W. (Debra) Stovall; niece, Sandraetta Lighfoot, nephews, Larry E. Franklin, Jr., and Laneus D. Franklin, Sr.; niece, Kathleen (Michael) Lightfoot; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
