Marvin Hood

Marvin Hood was born June 19, 1952, in Wheelwright Kentucky, a son of the late Malachi Hood and Lillie Jones Hood. Marvin accepted Christ at an early age. He was a graduate of Wheelwright High School where he played as a linebacker for the Trojans and was also a talented cornet player for the band. He continued his studies and graduated from Western Kentucky University and pledged Phi Beta Sigma - Omicron Eta Sigma Chapter where he spent the rest of life devoted to his brotherhood and serving his community. During his studies at WKU, he met his loving wife, Vivian Baker. Together, they would raise two children, providing them with endless love and support. He joined State Street Baptist Church and continued to serve The Lord. Marvin retired from The Kentucky Cabinet of Children & Family Services where he worked for over 25 years as a Supervisor of Intake for Warren County and was also the secretary for the Kentucky Association of State Employees. Throughout his career, he provided resources and care for children in need. For his actions, Marvin was bestowed a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Martha Layne Collins. After a long career, Marvin also served as a Chairman of the Board for Hospice of Southern Kentucky, Inc. In his free time, Marvin was an avid cyclist and runner, having participated in several marathons. No opponent could beat him in a game of pool. He had a passion for smooth jazz, photography, and restoring his 1993 Ford Probe. He was a staunch WKU Hilltoppers football and basketball fan. Aside from his physical and musical skills, Marvin had a talent of making everyone feel welcomed and relaxed, especially with his jokes. On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, Marvin gained rest for his soul, at Hospice of Southern KY, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 21 days. He has joined along with his parents; siblings, Debra Jo Hood, Arneedia Hood Pickett, and William Lee (Jill) Dower Sr., and brother in-law Joseph Harris. The memory of Marvin Hood will be cherished by his wife of 47 years, Vivian Baker; children, Marvin B. Hood and Vakessha Hood; brothers, Robert Hood, and Ralph (Blanche) Hood; sisters, Barbara Harris, Ernestine Johnson, Shirley Hood, and Marvella Hood; a host of nieces, nephews, brothers and sister's in-law, other relatives and friends; Special grandbaby kitty cat, Smeagol.
