Catherine Parker-Washington

Catherine Sallie (Parker) Washington was born on the 25th day of March 1937 in Smith Grove, Kentucky. She was the fourth of eleven children born to parents, Thomas and Pearl (Hayes) Parker. Catherine accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age and was Baptized in 1948 and became a member of Mt. Olla Baptist Church in Smiths Grove, Kentucky. She was educated in the Bowling Green school district in Kentucky. In 1958 she met her future husband William Lloyd Washington, who was stationed at Fort Campbell as a paratrooper. They married in 1959 and relocated to Brooklyn, New York. This union produced two children. Once established in Brooklyn, New York, she became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board for over 30 years. Catherine was a loving wife, awesome mother, proud grandmother and great grandmother. She was an outstanding CNA who enjoyed working with the elderly. Her patients and their families adored her for the compassion that was shown. She also cared for drug addicted babies as a foster parent for almost 20 years. Our heavenly father called her home on the 14th of August 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, William Washington; her loving parents, Thomas and Pearl Parker; three sisters, Artie Jean (Parker) Walker, Marilynn Sue (Parker) Chamberlain and Emily Louise (Parker) Favors; and three brothers, Lloyd Parker ( half brother), Roy Thomas Parker and Bryant Taylor Parker. Catherine leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Deborah Washington from East Stroudsburg, PA; her son and his wife, Gregory and Sharon Washington from Gloucester, VA; nine grandchildren, William J. and Nikia Washington, Quione Washington-Williams, Mercedes Smith, Virginia Washington, Sydney Washington, Saffiya Washington, Monique Carey, Diona Washington and Simone Gayle; eight great grandchildren, Justin, Nyah, Brookelyn, Cameron, Shakur, Willow, James and Elijah; four sisters, Virginia Pillow and Evelyn Esther Parker from Kentucky, Barbara Ann Parker from Indiana and Patricia Pearl Parker from Tennessee; one brother and his wife, Ernest Marshall and Diane Parker from Tennessee; one sister in law, Coreen Parker; one life long friend, Ruby Edna Sutherland; and her god daughters, Sidell Johnson and Rochelle Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
