James R. Carothers

James Richard Fant Carothers (Jimmy) was born on February 22, 1955 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Alvin and Frances Carothers and Tommy Alexander. Jimmy was baptized and a member of Eleventh Street Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky at an early age and participated in the Male Quartet. Jimmy graduated from Bowling Green High School and participated in JROTC. He attended Bowling Green Junior College while working as a store manager at Hardees Restaurant. Then went on to serve in the United States Army. He returned from the army and joined the workforce in the field of construction in Indiana with Sears Bathroom and Kitchen, which was one of his passions. He went on to work in the profession of sales with Montgomery Wards and Kelly King Nissan. He was the top seller for many years in both businesses throughout his career with the companies. Jimmy had aspirations of owning his own business which became a reality. He started the Indiana branch of TAZ Remodeling & Construction to fruition. He had a very successful business and gained ownership of several properties around Gary, Indiana. Jimmy transferred his membership and was a devoted member of New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church in the 1980s. He served in the Gospel Chorus, Male Chorus, Mission Circle, Ruth Circle, Laymen’s Committee, Van Ministry, Interfaith Community Partners, and several other committees. He loved his church and the members. Jimmy loved his family. He was a devoted father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend to many. He loved to sing, watch sports, play dominoes, play frisbee golf, bowl, play phase 10, and watch movies. He served as an assistant coach with Dallas Angles in the WPBA during the 2000s. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Buford and Ida Carothers, Robert Fant, Virgie Bailey, brothers, Randy Carothers, Christopher Carothers. Jimmy leaves his children and family to honor his memory: Rian Chambers, Tinisha Morris, Calvin Taylor, Kenyah Ferguson, Jayme Carothers, and James Carothers II, Takessa Lawal. Brother and Sisters, Danny Carothers, Tracy (Bobby) Whitney Shannon (Myrick) Byrd, Wrenn, Patricia, Jane, Linda, Joyce, Eunice, Tim, and Donald. 8 grandchildren, stepmother, Mable Alexander, and a host of nieces and nephews. Uncles, Joe Patterson and George Kenneth (Shirley) Fant. Sister-in-law, Lenore Carothers, and many other relatives. and friends Sincerely, -Your friends at Burnam and Son
