February 25, 1920 - November 24, 2010

Mrs. Agnes Thedders (Carr) Alexander After nearly a century of serving as mentor, confidant, and role model to those in need and a more than 20years battle with Alzheimer's Disease, in the end Agnes Thedders Carr Alexander, 90, was swept swiftly and quietly into an earthly rest on November 24,2010. The Troudsale County Tennessee native was born on February 26, 1920 , to the late Dave Carr & Mildred Corley Carr. She matriculated to Bowling Green in her early youth and became a member of the Seventh Street, Mount Zion, & Eleventh Street Baptist Churches, respectively, as she changed residences across the city. In those churches she became a member of the usher boards, choirs, and served fervently and faithfully where ever else she was needed. At Mt. Zion she was a member of the Helen Ragland Memorial Club. She and her husband, the late Lockwood Lewis Alexander, built, owned and operated the now defunct Jonesville Market which later became known as Calloway's Grocery Store. Later, she was employed as a Doctor's Assistant at Graves & Gilbert Clinic for 12 years, and still later as bookkeeper for Pushin's Department store, Sportswear Mart, & Helen's Dress Shop before becoming owner and operator of her 11th & State Streets Kuddly Kare Day Care Centers. She was a member of the Hattie Wolfe Temple Branch of Elks IBPOE & the Avon President's Club. She and the late Andrew Minor headed up the Black Adult Council that built the Black Teen Center on State Street in the mid 1960's. She was a member of the George Washington Carver Community Organization and member of the Executive Board of South Central Kentucky Community Organization and member of Grandparent's Council. "Teddy" enjoyed working with children and as the daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter of slaves and sharecroppers, mentored her own grandchildren to scholarly heights as attendees and/or graduates of Northwestern University (Chicago), Iowa's Writer's Workshop, Standford University (Palo Alto), Oxford University, (England), Harvard, Duke University & Georgetown University Law schools, University of Hawaii & Hampton University. Arrangements are being handled by Burnam & Son Mortuary,Inc., 201 Center Street, Bowling Green, KY where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, November 29, 2010. Funeral service will be at Seventh Street Baptist Church at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Bowling Green, KY. A sister; Audrey Walden Bailey & brother, Billy Zack Carr. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Angela Townsend of Bowling Green, Kentucky, a brother; Cherry Carr of Bowling Green; a daughter in law, Elnora Alexander of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Four grandchildren, Nicole Alexander & husband LT.C Nathaniel Farmer of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Jacinda Thedders Townsend-Gides & husband David Gides of Carbondale, Illinois; Donald Wayne Alexander II and longtime friend Jolie Owmby of Bowling Green, KY, and Akisha Townsend and longtime friend Jack Eaton of Glenwood, Maryland. Great-grandchildren; Nicholas Farmer, Nigel Farmer, Rhianna Gides & Fadzai Gides; and a horde of nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
