Stevyn J. Lee Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

With gusto, in Port Huron, Michigan on April 24, 1984, Stevyn John Lee, claimed his place in the world. Precocious, witty, inquisitive, and the delight of his parents, Cheryl Bates-Lee and John W. Lee, Jr., "Boo Bear" as his mother lovingly called him, lived joyfully until illness dimmed his spirit. December 26, 2021, Stevyn left this earthly domain for permanent residency with Jesus. Inquisitive about the intricacies and mysteries of technology, the culinary arts, and the social sciences, Stevyn valued reading and education. Conversations were frequently peppered with, "Did you know about . . . ?" as he effusively shared some obscure fact about a subject, he found particularly fascinating irrespective of whether the listener did. This curiosity led to him earning a Certificate in Culinary Arts Management from Tidewater Community College, Norfolk, Virginia. Additionally, he earned both an associates and baccalaureate degree culminating with a MBA from Claflin University, Orangeburg, South Carolina. Stevyn's zest for life included an appreciation for gaming, cycling, jogging, baking, cooking, and traveling. Shrimp and grits, curry, gumbo, and bread pudding were just a few of his signature dishes. Travel enabled him to see and experience so much of God's wonderous world. Stevyn was conversational in Japanese, spoke Mandarin Chinese and used this skill while employed at Hubei University of Science and Technology, Hubei Province, China to teach English as a Second Language. Stevyn found comfort in the words of John 3:16 in the Gospel of John. He was confident in his love for Jesus, was assured that Jesus loved and saved him, and that as a result, he would be whole in the heavenly realm. This walk of faith led him to unite with the community of believers at First Baptist Church of Glenarden (FBCG) in Prince George County, Maryland. Stevyn was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Louie F. Bates (Port Huron, Michigan). Momentarily left behind to miss his love, to miss his bright smile and wry sense of humor, to cherish his sweet memory, and to Praise God for his life are: his mother, Cheryl Bates-Lee; his father, John W. Lee, Jr. (Orangeburg, South Carolina); his maternal grandmother, Margrette L. Houston Bates (Pontiac, Michigan); his paternal grandmother, Earline (A.J.) Jones, (Jacksonville, Florida); a number of Aunts and Uncles; a gaggle of cousins; loving friends from all over the world; and seven (7) cuddly fur babies.
