John H. Long

November 13, 1936 - November 10, 2017

John Henry Long, was born November 13, 1936, in Greenwood, MS, a son of the late Willie and Ebbie Betts Long. John was a graduate of Vashon High School, St. Louis, MO where he played football, John also attended college in MO. John was a member of Our Lord’s Temple Church, where he served as a Deacon and received the Sunday School Award. John loved going to church and would get excited about Jesus and start running for his Lord. John was a 43 year retired employee of the General Motors, Corporation, where he received recognition for his many years of service. In his leisure John loved to watch baseball “Chicago Cubs” was his favorite team, the TV shows Family Feud and the sports channel, spend time with his dog “Star”, playing golf and gardening. On December 23, 2001, in Granite City, IL, John married Madelynn Wade and they have shared many joyful days together. John’s final run took place on, Friday, November 10, 2017, as he crossed that finish line surrounded by his family and loved ones. Along with John’s parents he was predeceased by brothers and sisters, James Long. Alfred Long, William Long, Maxie Long, Maudie Marshall, Freddie Long, Mattie Maxie and Annie Long. The memory of John H. Long will forever remain with his wife, Madelynn Long; children, Donald (Debra) Glover, Aurila “Rita” Chunn, LaTroy (Danielle) Long, Kodie Wade and William Wade; grandchildren, Michaela, Griffin, Darreldron, Destiny, Traniyah, LaTavious, KeShaun, Na’Siyah, Carmen, O’Mari, William, Jeremiah, Na’Tylahn, DaKiyahn, and Naomi; great grandchildren, Zacoria, Ahmad, Darreldron Jr.; in-laws, Sherry Suggs, Kimberly “Tunie” Suggs, Reginald Wade, George Wade; special friends, Aretha and Gill Holts, Teresa Adams, and Paul Beasley; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
