Horace D. Greer Jr
December 7, 1936 - February 2, 2018
Horace D. Greer, was born, Monday, December 7, 1936, in Oakland, KY, to the late Horace Stanley Greer, Sr., and Lomora Hayes Greer. Horace was a 1954 graduate of High Street High School where he played basketball. After high school Horace D. enlisted with the United States Army where he received the Good Conduct Medal, First Class Gunner, and Marksman Awards. Horace D. was the first black Deputy Sheriff for Warren County, KY appointed in 1970. Horace D. was a former deacon of First Baptist Church Glasgow, KY and was now a faithful and dedicated member and deacon of the Mt. Olla Baptist Church. Horace D was one of the founding members of the Faithful 5, which became known as the United Brotherhood Choir. His love for singing along with his cousin, James Fishback, was shared throughout the state. Horace was a member of the, Liberty District Laymen, Liberty District Mass Choir and Mt. Olla Church Choir, where he was able to share the gift God blessed him with. Horace D. was a former employee of SKF, Tyson Bearing, Glasgow, but always had and kept a love for farming his parents land. Horace had a loving spirit and was a friend to all, he enjoyed singing, fishing, mowing, the NY Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. On Friday, February 2, 2018, Horace joined the heavenly choir at the age of 81. Horace leaves to honor and cherish his memory a son, David H. Greer, Washington, D.C.; granddaughter, Jamila Jusino, Chicago, IL; special friend, Shirley Martin; David’s mother, Julie Hayes; special cousins, Warner T.
