Rev. Gus Orr
February 17, 1929 - April 23, 2022
Rev. Gus Orr, a native of Lincoln, Alabama, was born, February 17, 1929, the only child of the late Ted Orr and Annie Madden Orr Green. Rev. Orr passed from this world to his eternal resting place on, Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the glorious age of 93 years, 2 months and 6 days. Rev. Orr served in the United States Army for 26 years where he retired as a SFC serving in Germany, South Korea and Vietnam as an infantry, operations and intelligence specialist. He received numerous citations, badges and awards, (Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal) to name only a few. Rev. Orr also served 8 years as the Pastor of Peace & Goodwill Baptist Church in Aniston, Alabama. He was the chaplain of DAV Chapter 24 in Anniston, Alabama, and was elected as chaplain for the Department of Alabama, DAV in 1993-94. Rev. Orr earned his BS in Social Studies Education and his MS in Guidance Counseling from the Tuskegee Institute. He was also employed at Fort McClellan for 10 years. Rev. Orr was married to Zelma Ann Halsell on, October 30, 1976, in Oakland, Kentucky. To cherish the memory of Rev. Gus Orr he leaves his wife, Zelma Ann Orr; children, Augustus (Sharon) Orr, Teresa Orr, Glenn (Yalana) Orr, Bernard Orr, Cynthia Orr, Wanda Orr, Darryl Orr, Effort (Dana) Hayes, Jr., Christopher (Vicky) Hayes, Stavin Halsel and Sherry Wilkinson; 18 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
