Gertrude Gipson

November 18, 1917 - February 23, 2015

Mrs. Gertrude Jewell Gipson was born in Greenville, Kentucky to the late James E. Jewell and Mary Jane Godley-Jewell on November 18, 1918. Gertrude was a life long member of State Street Baptist Church where she served on the Kitchen Committee and remained a faithful member until her health failed. During her free time Gert loved to entertain her family and friends by preparing and serving delicious meals for dinner parties. Gert’s favorite past time was sewing and she was always making something creative. Ms. Gert loved going shopping, she was often seen walking and never miss a step. Gert had a green thumb and was always known for keeping her plants thriving. Gert was a faithful and dedicated employee of Leichhardt Nursery, she retired after 45 years of service. Gert found her path to glory on, February 23, 2015, at the blessed age of 96 years, 3 months, and 15 days. Gert was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Gipson; her brothers, Roy Jewell, Edward Jewell, James Jewell, Jessie Jewell, Wallace Jewell; sisters, Zula Strange, Fannie Runie Poole, Gladys Butts, Carrie Baker, Mildred Phillips, Anna Jewell, and Katherine Gilbert, Mary Ferguson and Ernest Butts. Gert leaves her family to honor and cherish her memories son, William Thomas (Phyllis) Baker, Marietta, Georgia; sister, Ruth Britt, Bowling Green, Kentucky; several grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Sincerely, -Your friends at Burnam and Son
