Berenda Joyce Murrell-Martin, was born, October 27, 1948, in Oakland, KY. On Friday, February 24, 2017, Berenda passed while surrounded by the love of her family, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. Berenda was a graduate of Bowling Green High School and was a Crossing Guard with the City of Bowling Green, for over 37 years making her the longest serving Crossing Guard. Berenda was a dedicated and active member of the Eleventh Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the Inspirational Choir, Kitchen Committee, Usher Board and Willing Workers. Berenda was also the owner of B.J. Home & Lawn Service. Berenda’s favorite song was “Good Day” and that’s how she enjoyed living life; to it’s fullest with a smile on her face everyday; and this inspired her to perform in church plays while bringing joy to all she met. Berenda was a daughter of the late James Murrell and Beulah Murrell who survives. Berenda married Jimmy Martin in 1973, in Springfield, TN. Besides her father, Berenda was predeceased by daughter, Muriel Murrell; brother, Ronnie Joe Murrell; grandparents, Josie & Patton Wardlow and Bertha & James Murrell. Berenda’s memories will be cherished by her husband, Jimmy Martin, Bowling Green, KY; children, Michael (Terri) Murrell, Knoxville, TN, Rena Martin and Sequoia Martin, both of Bowling Green, KY; grandchildren, YaKeshia, Rondazia, Michael, Jr., MaKiah, Dyericus, Janay, Jayla, JaCorey and Jayden; great grandchildren, KeShawn, Amelia and Adaya; brothers and sisters, Bishop Tommy (Martha) Murrell, Anna (Larry) Coats, Mary Lou (Ronnie) Holder, all of Bowling Green, KY; aunt, Mrs. Francis Boards, Smiths Grove, KY; longtime special sisters, Elaine Burton, Patricia Parker, and Shirley Patterson; a host of nieces and nephews, special niece and nephew William & Charlotte Woods, many relatives and friends.
